Situated at 10 minutes from Grazalema village in the Natural Park of the same name (see Grazalema map & guide), by an old mill and the clear running river that still ran the mill until very recently, is a self-catering rental home built on the site of the mill’s bakery.

It’s ideal for people who want that get-back-to-nature experience but without roughing it. You’re in a leafy valley surrounded by trees and next to a river that tumbles in small waterfalls to form plunge pools that you can bathe in.

The river and location are virtually private. The millhouse itself, some 20 metres to the rear of the property, has also been converted for holiday stays but it has its own entrance and is screened off by vegetation, so that one doesn’t feel that privacy is compromised.

You arrive at a wooded setting in the Natural Parkland and leave the car in a very quiet spot 50 metres from the house, which is reached along a path and little bridge over the river.

Inside, the accommodation is simple and rustic, but quite comfortable and adequately equipped. The house is focussed on the river, onto which all the windows look, as well as an intimate furnished terrace that guests tend to use for meals and drinks. The terrace is accessed from both living and dining rooms.

From the kitchen, a covered (but not glazed) walkway leads to a spacious double bedroom built on an adjacent rock, where it provides plenty of privacy for a couple. It has direct access to its own terrace area.

The same passageway has stairs down to the lower floor, which is at the same level as the river. Here there is a bathroom, utility room with washing machine, and two bedrooms, one double and one single-bedded. The double room has a door out to a small timber deck and the stone path that runs along the river.

Apart from the river, there are quite a lot of steps and places with drops and so we don’t offer the property to families with very small children. Older children and teenagers will love the chance to explore the lovely natural surroundings. When the day gets hot, a dip in the clean, fresh river pools by rounded rocks is a delight.

This is a great place to disconnect. There’s no TV and no internet, just marvellous opportunities to go rambling in the Natural Park, visit the caves and enjoy the attractive Andalucia village of Grazalema, with its 5 restaurants and 9 bars, and new sauna-and-spa facility.

Notes:
-Not suitable for small children.
-Parking is 50 metres from the property.
-In winter, guests are invited to cut free firewood in the locality or to otherwise make use of a wheelbarrow to cart firewood bought in Grazalema village. A gas heater is also provided.
