We often have to travel many miles in our pursuit of excellence until we find the character and qualities we look for in a rural holiday home. Here, in the Colmenar area (less than 10 minutes from Colmenar village) and distinguishing itself from many less than satisfactory box-like “cottages,” is a country villa with class and style. The location won us over, too. South-facing, it is completely private and affords exemplary views of the surrounding mountain ranges. Swimming in the infinity pool perched above the hills fills one with a sensational feeling of freedom. The entire scene is a picture.

At the heart of the house is a rustic dining room, although sunny Axarquia inevitably draws guests to the generous outdoor spaces. To the rear of the villa and near to the kitchen is a barbecue area with a shaded porch. A pergola provides an alternative al fresco dining spot. Sunloungers are ranged alongside the swimming pool and there’s a 1-metre deep pool for kids that will keep them healthily energetic. It’s slim and yet stretches out a full eight metres.

All this amounts to a fine holiday residence in which to enjoy a Mediterranean way of life in total privacy and tranquillity, yet there are always things to do in addition to visiting Lake Viñuela or the pretty white villages in the region.

The Malaga Mountains Natural Park is nearby and beaches at Nerja or Torre del Mar just half an hour away. A notice board is posted with useful information about horse riding and other local activities and restaurants. Easy driving to Malaga Airport, too: you're here in under an hour.

The property is accessed from the village of Colmenar, and then down 1 km of track in good condition.

Notes:
-The swimming pool wil be open from mid-April to November 2010, weather permitting.
-From May to October, the changeover day is usually a Saturday.
-Security deposit: There is a 140 € security deposit payable on each reservation. This will be refunded three weeks after your holiday, subject to reductions for breakages or damage
