If you require a modest but well-furnished, well-finished holiday cottage in a lovely countryside location, this converted stable and loft represents an excellent choice.

The house is set apart in an impressive estate belonging to a manor house. With a double and a twin bedroom, swimming pool and lawn, it may already have much of what you are looking for. Add to that the run of the grounds, two pretty villages within walking distance, wildlife and trekking in Aracena Natural Park, or a picnic at Aracena reservoir, plus day trips to Seville, the Rio Tinto mines, Portugal, even the Atlantic coast, and the proposition is decidedly attractive.

If you need another property in the same locality for a another family, then in the same estate there is the almost identical HA18 and the three-bedroomed HA19. The estate is very extensive and each house is completely private and at a considerable distance from the others.


After arriving at the property down a good track to parking alongside the property, one enters via a shaded terrace to a smart, nicely furnished living room. There’s a CD/radio and, if you bring a laptop and the appropriate card, you can connect to internet. There’s a glass-fronted woodburner for cool months (firewood is included in the rental price).

The kitchen/dining room comes equipped with marble worktop, dishwasher, fan oven, fridge freezer and washing machine: not so modest, after all! The two bedrooms upstairs have handmade furniture, solid wooden ceilings and both have en suite bathrooms. The double bed is king size.

But it’s the outside world here that gives such enjoyment. The lawned garden with its sweet pool (5m x 3m) ends in a backdrop of fig and apple trees, where one or two sheep occasionally roam, and so may you, as are welcome to explore the estate at your leisure. In this gorgeously secluded area of Andalucia, the vegetation is rich and exuberant. A path behind the house meanders through trees to the hamlet of Los Marines (with one bar, at least, to slake thirsts after that valiant 20-minute stroll) and, somewhat further, Fuenteheridos, a fine village with restaurants and a famous fountain. Children shouldn’t miss the amazing grotto in Aracena, just 6 km distant. You can read more about this area in our Guide to Sierra de Aracena.

The manor house, located elsewhere in the grounds, has operated as a country hotel in the past and it is still sometimes possible to order dinners there, now in the capable hands of an English cookery expert. Gourmets note that one of your nearby villages is Jabugo, renowned throughout Spain and beyond for its delicate cured ham.
