This intimate one-bedroomed cortijo in the warm and fertile river valley in Orgiva (see on Alpujarras map) is a great opportunity for a couple who want their own pool and a good standard of accommodation without too many  frills.

The villa is quiet, sunny and inviting, with its own swimming pool and garden. It is private and not overlooked, with only the owners’ house as a very discrete neighbour, and otherwise surrounded by olive and orange trees and market gardens. It's a very genuine corner of the Alpujarra, where you will find the typically eclectic Orgiva mix of people from local farmers to British retirees to alternative travellers. In a patch of land neighbouring the villa there is usually a donkey or a horse.

The  town is a 10-minute walk away. It manages to be somehow busy yet unhurried at the same time. There are supermarkets, a health food shop, café-bars with terraces, restaurants, internet and a lively Thursday open air market.

The villa is built within its own small plot of land with a garden that offers a lawn, a swing chair for two, simple shaded furniture for eating outdoors, and a filtered swimming pool. Steps go up a flat roof that doubles as sun terrace by day and a place to view the stars by night.

The accommodation's 50 m² are well designed to take advantage of the space and cheerfully decorated, as well as being very adequately equipped for holiday stays.

The living room doubles as dining room, with just a low table for meals, served by a well put-together kitchen with some winning decorative touches. The blue-painted double bedroom is bright and upbeat, with French windows out to the garden and swimming pool. The bathroom is very attractively tiled and has a walk-in shower.

Parking is close-by and shaded and one then enters to a private patio and porched front door. Alongside is a nice little lawned garden, part shaded by an old olive tree. The pool has comfortable sunbeds and views of surrounding mountains -- and a nothing-if-not-original sculpture you can see in the photos...

The location is very interesting, too. Orgiva is an easy walk for all your needs (including internet café), and excursions are varied and fascinating. We know the area well and will send you our personal recommendations on where to eat out, what to do and day trips.

The Costa Tropical is an easy 40-minute drive from Orgiva. Don’t expect sandy beaches, but do look for the occasional pretty spots along the coast, beach restaurants and their fish barbecues.

Granada and the magnificent Alhambra palaces are 45 minutes away and the picturesque and increasingly quaint, ancient villages of the High Alpujarra (Capileira, Bubion, Pampaneira) with great walking, areless than half an hour away up the inviting mountain road.
