The luxurious palatial residence dates back to 1492, when the King and Queen of Spain were receiving an ambitious sea captain called Christopher Columbus in Granada’s Alhambra palaces one hour away.

Since then it has been developed and refined into a magnificent country mansion, complete with tennis court, spring-fed swimming pool (heatable on request), marvellous Moorish-style ornamental gardens and a graceful private chapel that is available for blessings at wedding receptions.

It tends to be rented by large groups of family and friends for a week’s holiday in outstanding accommodation, but also for special group retreats or workshops, small business conferences and wedding receptions.

The entire property is offered on a self-catering basis, although catering staff can be hired if required. While normal group size is between 12 and 20 guests, a total of 24 people can be comfortably accommodated and the same number seated in the oak-panelled dining hall.

There is room for twenty guests in the main mansion house’s eleven bedrooms and another four in a cottage annexe. All bedrooms have en suite bathrooms.

The location is a warm, tranquil valley just half an hour from Almuñécar on Granada’s Costa Tropical, easily reached from either Granada or Malaga Airport. It's fairly close to but not in Las Alpujarras and we include it in that area for convenience.The climate is typically hot and sunny and outdoor spaces in the mansion grounds are as popular and appreciated as the indoor facilities. There are impeccable gardens with walkways, broad terraces, valley and hillside views, ancient palm trees, a summer bar by a hard-surface tennis court and a cypress-bordered swimming pool. The main terrace is perfectly suited to sunbathing and has views of the valley and the nearby village of Otivar. Al fresco meals can be taken in a vine-shaded area of the terrace.

The mansion has been renovated with admirable taste and respect for its historical character and atmosphere. Furnishings include items belonging to the original Marquess. An entrance hall leads to the grandest of drawing rooms with a vaulted ceiling and large, central fireplace. This leads onto a long dining room, where all your guests can sit together for formal or informal occasions. The dining room and TV room also have log fires for cooler months.

The country kitchen is appropriately large and professionally equipped to cater to the full quota of diners. It has an industrial dishwasher to take care of the hard work afterwards. The kitchen also doubles as a breakfast room.

Also downstairs are a laundry room, an internal patio and a bedroom with two individual beds (Room 10).

On the same ground floor are a day room / TV lounge which can be prepared as a conference room, a library with internet, phone and fax connections, and a museum room equipped with a pool table.

The mansion house’s sleeping accommodation is almost all situated on the first floor. All rooms have en suite facilities and each is different. For full details, please see the property Distribution below.

When required, a courtyard cottage provides two additional bedrooms. Guests staying here shouldn’t worry that they have drawn the short straw: it’s a recently renovated, smartly rustic, fully equipped cottage with modern kitchen and bathrooms. The sitting room has French windows opening to a terrace from where you can view wonderful sunsets over the valley. Both twin bedrooms are again en suite. Electric heating is supplemented by a log fire. The cottage has a vine-covered terrace.

Wedding receptions here under an Andalusia sun make for a particularly spectacular occasion. While your booking with Rustical Travel is solely for the accommodation as described above, we will be pleased to put you directly in contact with the country mansion’s wedding coordinator for all arrangements connected with the event. The chapel seats 45 people and there is room for another 25 standing.

The main terrace and gardens can accommodate 110 people. In cooler months of the year, an indoor dining room in the "Old Olive Mill" is available for large scale functions. It has a seating capacity of 80 - 100 guests.

The property is let on a self-catering basis and only basic cleaning and maintenance of ground floor communal areas and gardens are carried out daily by staff as part of the rental arrangement. Additional cleaning and services (bedrooms, kitchen, meals preparation and serving, laundry, babysitting) must be requested well in advance but enjoy the distinct advantage of direct payment to staff at local rates.

The property is child-friendly and children over three years are counted as full guests.

Important notes
Obligatory costs not included in the advertised accommodation price and which can be paid either with the balance of the booking or in cash on arrival:
-A final day cleaning charge of 250 € applicable to all bookings.
-A linen laundry charge of 250 € applicable to all bookings.
-A winter fuel charge of 250 € per week applicable from November to March.

Optional costs

-Swimming pool heating is available at 250 € per week from November to May. This should be requested at least 2 weeks in advance.
-Additional cleaning, also catering, babysitting etc. must be arranged in advance. Payable in cash directly to the staff providing the service (currently 8 € /hour for a maid, 12 € /hour for a cook).
-A telephone & fax service is available on request and payable locally.

-A refundable security deposit of 1,500 € is applicable to all bookings. This sum is recredited in full 6 weeks after the booking, subject to deductions for breakages and damage.

-Bookings are generally for a minimum of one week with a Saturday start and finish.
-Short breaks of 3 days are available from November to March (except Christmas & Easter periods).
-The balance of the booking for this property must be paid 8 weeks in advance of arrival. Cancellation within 8 weeks of the booking start is not subject to refund.
-Mobile phone coverage is generally good, but not guaranteed by operators without transmitters in the mountain surroundings
-The courtyard cottage is only available when the entire property is booked for more than 20 people.
-Pets are not permitted at this property.
