In the old, traditional world of Las Alpujarras, this modern architectural creation stands out as an exception. It’s smartly designed for easy living and situated on its own on the lip of a promontory with fantastic views up the Guadalfeo Valley, across to the southern sierras and down to the sparkling blue water of the reservoir at Rules. The panorama is majestic.

In the sunny climes of the Low Alpujarra, the silence at this totally private villa seems to expand to fill the warm air. The atmosphere is almost surreal. A huge pool awaits.

The villa is accessed down a track from the high valley road midway between the main population centres of Orgiva and Lanjaron. Air conditioned in summer, centrally heated in winter, it is equipped for those who expect facilities to be more complete than at a regular Alpujarra villa (although a tumble dryer really is superfluous in this climate).

The décor, spaces and lines of this designer villa are striking. Classic Mediterranean white reflects light from the tall windows to create a luminosity filling the main room up to its high ceiling. It’s a vast open space though which guests may flow from quality sofas to dining table to kitchen and from all of these through French windows to the outdoor areas.

Furnishings, fittings, beds, linen, kitchen equipment and dining service are of a high quality. Satellite TV is provided as well as a DVD and broadband internet access is installed in two upstairs bedrooms. There’s also a small office space for anyone who needs to keep the business going while being well away from it all. Both bedrooms have double beds, en suite bathrooms and doors out to high level gardens. They are fresh, spacious and luminous, accessed from a landing that looks down on the living / dining room.

The house is arranged on three levels, the third reached downstairs where there are two further bedrooms, a double and a twin sharing a bathroom between them. They also have French windows leading directly outside, this time to a tiled sun terrace, main gardens and the swimming pool just below.

It’s a magnificent pool, 12 metres long. A round splash pool for children adjoins it. They aren’t gated and there are one or two drops around the border of the property, so children would need to be kept an eye on. There’s a pool shower and recliners for soaking up the Andalusia sun.

The undisturbed location is ideal for people who want a complete privacy combined with the opportunity for day trips exploring the High Alpujarra villages of Bubion and Capileira and going on hikes, visiting Granada and the Alhambra, and nipping down the coast for barbecued fish on the beach.

All shopping facilities, plus cafés, bars and restaurants, are a 15-minute drive in either direction to Lanjaron or Orgiva. The track down to the villa is 2.6 km and paved except for the last 700 metres. It is manageable in a normal car but some care should be taken.
