This is a modest, intimate holiday home. Its furnishings are simple and basic, but perfectly adequate and chosen with good taste to suit the unsophisticated rusticity of the property.

The decoration is appropriate also, earth colours blending with softly coloured tiles. It has hand-made terracotta flooring, and thick , irregular old stone walls. The terrace, accessed from the living area, is a partly shaded spot with colourful plants and views of Alpujarra mountain scenery.

The setting is genuine and unspoilt and enjoys a mild microclimate, high enough to be spared excessive summer heat and oriented towards the south for winter sunshine.

Capilerilla (not to be confused with the larger, nearby Capileira) is the smallest and highest village in the district known as La Taha, of which Pitres is the nearby “capital.” It is located at the end of a mountain lane that winds up from Pitres through old chestnut trees.

This is a convenient base to get to know and get a feel of Alpujarra mountain life. From here you can explore the other villages of the Taha and the eastern Alpujarras, and a short hike takes you over a ridge to Bubion and Capileira in the Poqueira Valley: a different setting in a world of high peaks, a scene you will never forget.

Capilerilla has no services apart from a decent restaurant (at a local hotel), but Pitres, which has most services and a street market on Fridays, is just one kilometre away.

There are several other whitewashed small villages below Capilerilla, all part of La Taha district which have remained practically untouched by the years and are all connected by ancient paths, providing easy walking options.
