A far cry from the sun-parched south, where high temperatures can sap the visitor’s energy, northern Spain’s gentler climate suits a more active holidaymaker.

You can lie back and relax by a pool, as well, of course, but the other attractions will be hard to resist.

Galicia, Asturias and Cantabria combined occupy little more than half the area of Andalusia. Green Spain offers you the opportunity to ramble unspoilt, natural landscapes in the morning and play in the waves of the sea or ocean in the afternoon.

You can hike picture-book alpine mountains, visit cultural landmarks and museums, take an interest in history and pre-history, drive the exciting coastline, stop at sandy beaches and little coves, enjoy legendary food and drink, sampling fine seafood in fishing villages, local cheeses, ciders and wines, learn curious local traditions, explore National and Natural Parks, trek ancient forests, see cave paintings, cycle through leafy gorges, take a boat to paradisiacal islands, place your feet in dinosaur footprints, scan the mountains where the last brown bears still live, take a narrow-gauge train ride or a cable car, see rare horse and bird species, swim in the Bay of Biscay or the Atlantic Ocean, in your private swimming pool or natural river pools.
