Old-style accommodation, but with modern facilities. Somewhere you can really relax. A peaceful location, with beautiful scenery, but not too remote: close enough to the seaside or attractive cities for day trips.
Long, sun-drenched, summery days are the norm, but some may look for romantic hillwalking in the mild, misty winter of the green north. A swimming pool, gardens, hiking, maybe horse riding, countryside and mountains where there are trails and wildlife. A village that serves wholesome food. And not too expensive.

Set blissfully apart from the overcrowded, overheated, stressful costas, rural locations present an older Spain to the visitor. Roads become country lanes, cityscape gives way to country landscape and apartment existence is exchanged for cottage life. 
Here, you can physically and mentally stretch your legs, with fresh air to breathe and a new world to explore. Time passes more slowly, customs are more courteous and many aspects of traditional village life continue pretty much unchanged. All this will come as a pleasant surprise to the exploring visitor who imagined such serene ways no longer existed in this modern, colourful, exciting country.
With standards of rural accommodation having reached a high plateau, gastronomy a priority, and an intriguing cultural city or enticing coastline within easy day-trip reach, inland Spain is a natural choice.
