If you want comfort and privacy in a tranquil setting by a well-preserved old village, within extra-easy reach of unbeatable highlights of northern Catalonia, look no further.

Your accommodation is set in quiet countryside, just 100 metres from the village. It comprises a large part of an impressive dwelling, with an adjoining apartment that is left strictly unoccupied by the owners whenever holidaymakers are here, guaranteeing complete privacy in house and gardens.

We especially liked the very spacious and imaginatively decorated open-plan main room, and the way it communicates naturally with the lawned gardens. The house scores high on facilities, including WiFi internet throughout the house (and even in the garden). The three bedrooms are comfortable, attractive and have a bathroom each (although only one of them is en-suite). 

Those small but important details have not been forgotten: holiday packing is made that much lighter by the provision of pool towels, plus a hairdryer in each bathroom; and there's a fan in each bedroom for the warm summer nights.

A stepped, mosaic swimming pool allows for delicious cooling-off and enjoyment during summer months and there are sunloungers (six of them) by the pool and in the gardens. The exciting possibilities for day trips make it very likely that you’ll be spending a lot of time out and about, but what a gorgeous place to come back to! The house is an excellent choice all year round with central heating as well as an open fireplace (logs included in the rental).

This is one of the most rewarding locations in Spain and excursion options from the property make for a thoroughly complete holiday. You can choose from cultural visits to villages and towns, including Dali’s castle museum in the town where he was born and died; natural wonders such as the amazing volcanoes of La Garrotxa; boating, swimming and walks at Banyoles Lake, and good beaches on the Costa Brava.

Distances to places of interest are normally an item we leave to the end, but in this case they bear underlining as they are so conveniently situated. Here are some of the highlights:

Handsome Girona cathedral town, with its ancient Jewish quarter (and international airport): 35 minutes

Banyoles Lake, from where water is channelled through through the town of the same name, watering the market gardens of Sant Esteve monastery: 15 minutes.

Besalú, extraordinarily atmospheric medieval town on the banks of the River Fluvià: 20 minutes.

At Cabanelles, Mare de Deu del Mont, a magical mountain from whose summit you can see virtually the entire province of Girona. It is surmounted by a sanctuary, destination of local pilgrimages in March and April from nearby villages such as Crespià, Beuda, Besalù, Cabanelles: 10 minutes.

Dali’s Castle Museum, where the inimitable artist is also buried, in his home village of Figueres on the verge of the Pyrenees: 15 minutes.

Beaches of the Costa Brava and well-preserved ruins of the Greek town of Ampurias (Empúries): 40 minutes.

At Santa Pau, the marvel of the Garrotxa volcanic zone, where you can get right to the craters of the (extinguished) volcanoes. Or go horseriding in the unique beechwoods of the Faigeda d'en Jordà, whos autumn leaf fall is an event in itself: 45 minutes.

In Sant Miquel de Campmajor, Bosc Can Ginebreda is another enchanted wood, this time thanks to the free-standing sculptures by artist, Xicu Cabanyes. Xicu has his studio right in the very woods, and you’ll also find an interesting restaurant there: 30 minutes.
