The villa lies on top of a a hill, from where it surveys a gentle landscape of cultivated fields, the Pyrenees rising far beyond to create an imperious backdrop. Sunsets are spectacular. The day we visited the house the light and the rich autumn colours left an indelible impression. There are gardens all around and just to stroll around outside the villa is a true pleasure.

For many years this 17th century Catalonia villa was run as a guest house. The owners then remodelled the property, dividing off their own rooms to create independent self-catering holiday accommodation.

Privacy for guests was a priority, so new entrances were added and terraces fashioned to ensure that families would have their own space.

The delightful 9-metre swimming pool, about 50 metres from the house, is for the sole use of guests. Sunloungers, including an double-sized lounger with sunshade and a swingseat for three people, provide comfortable relaxation while you enjoy the panorama.

Inside, the house has a number of nice touches which emphasize the quality of decoration and furnishings.  All four bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and fans for the warm summer nights; three of them have a small bathtub for children.
 
A fully-equipped kitchen is open-plan with the dining area, and this gives out onto a rear terrace: a popular option for al fresco meals.

The living area, partly divided off, is extremely charming with its comfortable armchairs, wood-burning stove, beamed ceilings and music system. There is also a second living area with TV and DVD and an internet connection. If you don't plan to bring a laptop, there is a cybercafé in nearby (7 km) Banyoles.
 
The nearest hamlet called Santa Llogaia is pretty but has no services. Nevertheless, Cornella de Terri at 3 km puts you within easy reach of village life and shopping facilities. There are three good restaurants within 5 km of the villa, including one that is reached along a delightful country lane.

In 10 minutes you are in Banyoles, where the town  facilities are good and you can enjoy the extraordinary placidity of its grand lake, Olympic rowing venue and ideal for picnics and a boat trip.

And within half an hour, you can not only be in Girona, where strolls and meals are a real pleasure, but also the Dali castle-museum in Figueres and unspoilt beaches on the Costa Brava.

Don't miss out on exploring the natural and man-made beauties of La Garrotxa and its medieval villages and bear in mind that those intriguing mountains you see form the villa are the Pyrenees: an hour's drive away.

Girona Airport is 25 minutes away and Barcelona is 115 km.
