There are few properties that have it all and this one seduces with a number of charms. What makes this option a hint of paradise is the perfect combination of all the ingredients. A private pool, gardens and a pretty cottage are all desirable elements, but what you also have here is the fantastic Garrotxa location and the almost endless possibilities for exploration.

First, the private grounds, which are accessed from a road out of the village of Saint Esteve and entered through a gateway. There is over an acre of grounds, partly landscaped with shrubs, flowers and climbing plants, partly a private continuation of the forests which one sees stretching out all around.

For comfortable simplicity the house is laid out on a single floor (with a lower ground floor for storage), with the pool near at hand. A south-facing terrace overlooking the valley leads from the living area. Very relaxing views they are, too, filling the eye with natural greens while complete tranquillity rests the ear.

The cottage is a new build, with comfort and good taste designed into the architectural plan. Local building style is blended with smart modernity, which means that traditional decorative elements such as restored antiques and hand-crafted tiles are supported by the best in furnishing, allowing you to "rest assured" on quality mattresses and sofas. The living room has two sofas and the two bedrooms can be prepared with double or twin beds to suit your requirements. Colours are soft and thoughtful illumination makes every corner of the house inviting.

The kitchen is modern and fitted out in light oak.
 
When it comes to opportunities for discovery and exploration in this Catalonia region, a week is short. You may wish to ask the hospitable owners to help you to plan and organize day trips according your personal taste. Some may be drawn to the art, architecture and antiques in the local medieval villages and churches, where they will find themselves spoiled for choice.

Others will want to venture into the fabulous landscapes of La Garrotxa, an area marked by extinguished volcanoes and offering some of the best and most unusual trekking options we have come across. Walking around the totally spectacular Castellfollit de la Roca, for instance, is an unbelievable experience. This narrow village was raised on cliffs of lava that poured from one of the volcanoes thousands of years ago.

Discovering the Vall d´en Bas, its little pretty villages and landscapes, is also a must, while mediaeval Besalu nearby is regarded as one of the most beautiful villages in Spain.

The regional capital of Girona is only half an away and definitely one of the area's main attractions.

And for those who find the sea irresistible, there are the great satisfactions of seeking out isolated beaches and some extraordinary views along the coastline.
