Enjoy one of the emblematic white villages of the Ronda Mountain in superlative accommodation.

Comprising the upper floor of a renovated house close to the Convent in Gaucin, the luxurious interior combines with long-ranging views from the outside terrace, over the Mediterranean as far as Africa, to make this a compelling holiday choice.

The lion’s share of an impressive 140 m² is a grand, wood-beamed living room decorated and furnished in clean whites, and open plan with a dining area and smartly equipped kitchen.

The original smooth tiled floor leads out to another Andalusian feature which lends the apartment its true Mediterranean personality: a broad, covered terrace with columned arches and furnished to dine al fresco among potted plants.

From here you view pretty Gaucin village, its high castle on a promontory, the tree-populated valley and the sea.

Look directly down and there is the long roof of your indoor swimming pool by a lemon tree, and a sun terrace for your enjoyment.

The penthouse accommodation is created with couples in mind, although a second bedroom sleeps a third person and has its own en suite bathroom.

The Master bedroom is accessed via a screened archway. It has a supremely comfortable double bed and curtains opening to the terrace and palm tree outside. You can sit in bed and see Gaucin’s Eagle Castle, which is illuminated by night. The bedroom has a sitting area and plenty of wardrobe space. Bathrobes are provided.

Both bedrooms have air conditioning and central heating and each has a beautiful mosaic bathroom with underfloor central heating.

The single bedroom, furnished with bookshelves and a writing desk, doubles as a studio and high speed WiFi internet is provided.

The swimming pool is accessed via a neighbouring entrance at street level. One crosses a sun terrace, furnished with recliners for sunbathing, to an indoor pool which is quite unique in Gaucin.

Lined in cream mosaic, it is designed for long, leisurely swims, a full 17 metres from one end to the other.

It is important to note that the owner (who lives in the same building as the apartment) reserves one hour for her own use in the morning (from 10 am to 11 am); but the rest of the time it is exclusively yours.

Large, floor-to-ceiling glass doors slide open to communicate with the sun terrace and allow fresh air to circulate through. The sun terrace is overlooked by the owner's house only, and this lady is the height of discretion.

A heat-exchange system maintains the water at a delicious 26⁰C from spring to autumn, but note that the ambient temperature system doesn’t heat the pool during cold months. There’s a shower & WC where you can change and pool towels are provided.

After a dip, a stroll around the village will take you round whitewashed streets, splashed with colourful flowers and occasionally scented with jasmine and honeysuckle. There are views to the castle and out over the countryside.

At a nearby health food shop you can buy fresh bread and organic produce.

There are places to enjoy drinks sitting out on a café-bar terrace and meals at restaurants range from good, simple local fare to more sophisticated. Before you come, we’ll send you recommendations on where to eat out, as well as ideas for day trips and an interesting local walk.

And just half an hour away, of course is the sea, reached down a snaking country road.

Gaucin is an attractive choice, not only for its proximity to Mediterranean beaches, but also for visiting Ronda, Gibraltar and villages of character such as Jimena and Genalguacil.
