This extensive hacienda is Andalucia to the core.
Set in almost endless farmland (over 350 acres) in the Province of Cadiz, it has the traditional style of a heritage that existed long before Spain considered itself to part of Europe. Reached easily from Seville, Jerez or Cadiz, close also to Arcos de la Frontera, the estate occupies land to the north and west of Grazalema Natural Park. From here, the house enjoys relaxing views of cultivated fields rolling up to the dramatic mountain ranges of Grazalema and Ronda: it's very picturesque.
The property’s principal entrance and building spreads out on a single storey along two wings which double the facilities and together enclose a large, orderly courtyard planted with low trees and bougainvillea. This quadrangle serves both to receive the visitor and to link the two independent units of the extensive building in a shared space.
Each unit its own entrance hall, kitchen, large living/dining room with open fireplace and each has its own private terrace area. One takes up a single wing and has three en-suite bedrooms sleeping six people. The other occupies the other two flanks around the courtyard and has five bedrooms for a further nine guests. This larger part of the building has dining facilities for all fifteen guests and its kitchen is equipped with an industrial cooker.
Decoration is old-style and reflects the personal taste of the proprietors, who have added souvenirs from all over the world to local ceramics and hunting trophies. There are some antiques, comfortable sofas and a small library, too.
Outside, a large furnished porch with two barbecues provides the setting for outdoor activity. This is the most gratifying part of the property, the most enjoyable area to sit and relax, looking out onto the countryside scenery. Just below is the suitably grand swimming pool (10 m x 5 m), well provided for with sunloungers.
Olive groves belonging to the hacienda range around for many a mile, encouraging strolls early morning when the day is fresh or in the late afternoon when sunsets can be spectacular.
The location acts as a convenient base to explore some of Andalucia’s most attractive cities, with day trips to Seville, Ronda, Jerez or Cadiz all easy and this is also Pueblos Blancos country, home to some of Andalucia’s prettiest villages. The beautiful local town of Arcos de la Frontera (see video below) will inevitably be one of your first stops.
And not far is Grazalema, offering natural scenery at its rugged best for excellent hiking.
The finca is situated out on its own in undisturbed countryside, so note that shopping facilities and most services are some 6 km away, in Villamartin.
